The source of the river Mura is in Austrian national park Hohe Tauern. It enters Slovenia near the town of Radgona. The Mura's total length is 465 km, of which 98 km is in Slovenia. There are as many as 31 hydroelectric power stations on the Mura river. Particularly interesting are two operating water mills; the Babič mill with the floating water wheel at Veržej, and the floating mill in Ižakovci. Also interesting are the stagnant river branches which are the home of unique plant and bird species.
