The castle is located on a hill overlooking the city of Velenje. It was first mentioned in the 13th century. Its appearance, as we know it today, is of later origin. It was formed in the 16th century when the towers and vaulted hallways were added. The castle has a pentagonal shape and follows the contours of the inner courtyard. Today, it houses a museum and a gallery. Especially interesting is the collection of African art which is the only one of its kind in Slovenia.
