The castle, which has an appearance of a Renaissance- Baroque mansion, is situated on a hill above Ptuj and on the right bank of the river Drava. In the past, the castle stood on the amber road and played and important defence role. It was turned into a museum after World War 2. The ethnologic collection is particularly interesting. One of the topics deals with Ptuj's most distinctive feature - "kurent" (a traditional Shrovetide costume).
