The monastery is the only active monastery of the Carthusian order. It was established by Herman II, Count of Celje. It was bought by the Carthusian order at the end of the 19th century. The only remaining part of the original monastery is the Gothic church of St. Trinity. Today, the monastery serves as home to the monks who make their own spirits and wine and who are also occupied with apiculture.
