Pekel Cave
This karst cave is one of the most known and most frequently visited tourist caves in Slovenia. Located only a few kilometres away from Šempeter, its name (Hell Cave) comes from the contour of the stone wall next to the entrance which is a reminiscent of the shape of the devil. The cave most probably served as a prehistoric shelter, as animal and human bones dating from the Paleolithic Period have been discovered here. In the vicinity, there is a tourist centre where visitors can find refreshment and buy souvenirs.
