Štanjel
Located on the top of the hill Turn, Štanjel is a unique stone-built village. Its foundations date back to prehistoric times. Later, this was the site of a Roman settlement. During the period of the Turkish invasions, it was entirely secured by thick wall. The settlement is a nice example of the stone-carving craft. The church of St. Daniel is impossible to overlook, another important landmark is the Ferrari villa garden which has been one of the unique features of Štanjel already before World War 2.
