The museum presents different cultures that lived in the Slovene area during the course of history. The permanent exhibition entitled 'Between Nature and Culture' focuses on habits and customs and exhibits more than 3000 items. Among them the Pygmy, Egyptian, Nigerian, Chinese and Indonesian artefacts are the most noteworthy. The Slovene Ethnographic Museum also incorporates an interesting weavers' workshop.
