Škofja Loka Castle
The origins of the castle can be traced back to the 10th century, when the original fort was built here by the Bishops of Freising. The castle suffered a considerable amount of damage in the earthquake in the year 1511, but was renovated soon afterwards. It rises spectacularly over the city and offers an amazing sight. Nowadays, it houses the Škofja Loka Museum collections covering the fields of ethnology, art history, recent history, archaeology and several other fields. Particularly interesting is the Škofja Loka Passion Play, based on Slovenia's oldest preserved drama text.
