Škofja Loka
Škofja Loka is one of the most beautifully preserved medieval citites in Slovenia. Its ancient town centre is composed of the upper city square and the lower city square. The castle of Škofja Loka rises above these two squares. The medieval town Loka started developing at the confluence of the Selška Sora and the Poljanska Sora rivers. The history of Škofja Loka, as we know it today, has its origin in the year 973. But it was not before 1274 that the city was granted its city rights.
