Fridrihštajn Castle

The Fridrihštanj castle was built in the 15th century by the Count of Celje, Friderik II, for his mistress Veronika Deseniška, whom he married after the death of his first wife. Veronika was later on executed for witchcraft, while Friderik was imprisoned, and the castle demolished. It was renovated afterwards, but the nobility abandoned it in the 17th century, which was also reported by the German authors of fairytales, the Grimm brothers. The castle is today being renovated.
